ABC Reports: Angels' Shohei Ohtani had platelet-rich plasma injection in pitching elbow

The Los Angeles Angels' newly signed two-way star, Shohei Ohtani, had a platelet-rich plasma injection in his right pitching elbow in October, according to multiple reports.

Documentation of Ohtani's medical history was circulated to major league teams pursuing the free-agent Japanese baseball star, according to a report by Sports Illustrated, which added that Ohtani's agent told teams such injections often are used in Japan as a preventive measure.

Ohtani has a first-degree sprain of the ulnar collateral ligament, according to a physical report obtained by Yahoo Sports. But Angels general manager Billy Eppler told Yahoo Sports, "We are pleased with the results of the physical, and we are very happy to have the player."
